Family History Indexes
Criminal Register Indexes (HO 27)
The Home Office recorded persons charged with indictable offences in
England and Wales between 1805 and 1892 in the registers now held as Series HO
27 at the Public Record Office. These
are now being indexed. Full information
from the registers is provided: names, aliases, court, offence and
sentence/acquittal; also a variety of statistics showing numbers of (alleged)
offenders and ratios within the population.
Around 35% of those recorded were not actually found guilty and these
indexes give a tremendous insight into the social conditions of the time.
Format
Files on CD are in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (.PDF)
and support searching and printing as well as many options for navigation. Acrobat Reader software for Windows 3.1/95
& later is supplied on each CD. The
files are also compatible with Apple MAC and UNIX if you already have the
Reader software or download it from Adobe.com
